How A-Sim works

When you buy a plan, we provision your eSIM with the local mobile operator in your destination. Bought in the A-Sim app? Tap Install on your new eSIM and it's ready in seconds. Bought on the website? We email you a secure install link plus a QR code — open the link on the phone you want to use, or scan the QR. Arrive, and you're online — same coverage and speeds as a local SIM, no roaming fees.

Installing your eSIM

1. Connect to Wi-Fi

eSIM installation requires an internet connection. Do the install before you leave home, on your hotel or airport Wi-Fi, not on mobile data.

2. Install your eSIM

In the A-Sim app: open My eSIMs and tap Install — one tap, no scanning. On the website: we email you a secure install link plus a QR code. Open the link on the phone you want to use, or scan the QR from another screen. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM. Android: Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add mobile plan.

3. Enable data roaming for the eSIM

Once installed, open your eSIM line and toggle "Data roaming" ON. This is safe — your eSIM is pre-paid for the region and cannot be overcharged.

4. Give it 30–60 minutes on Wi-Fi after install

After your eSIM installs, just leave your phone on Wi-Fi for half an hour or so. Your eSIM finishes setting itself up quietly in the background — no action needed on your end. If you skip this, mobile data might not work right away when you land. Easiest way: install it the night before you fly and let it sit.

5. Enable A-Sim once you're on the plane

Right before take-off (or once you lose reception in the air), turn ON the A-Sim line and turn OFF your primary line. iPhone: Settings → Cellular → tap each line to toggle. Android: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs. This keeps your primary line active for any last-minute calls/texts at the gate but avoids surprise roaming charges the second you land. iMessage, WhatsApp, FaceTime and other apps will keep working on A-Sim data once you arrive — first connection abroad can take 1–3 minutes.

Pro tip: install the eSIM before you fly. The QR code expires only after first network attachment. Once installed, your data plan pauses until your phone touches down abroad.

Frequently asked

An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone. Instead of swapping a physical card, we send you a QR code that installs a mobile plan over the air in seconds.
